It would be to your advantage to purchase a Haynes Manual specific to your car. They can be purchased at most parts stores.
For my 94 Geo Prizm it's a 30mm.
Parts will cost about $100-$150 US and labor will be another 100-150 US.
I would suggest have it checked with a "trusted mechanic".,but I would wildly guess it could be your CV-Boots worn out-or just need to replace the driving axle- which the noise coming from...hope this help!!
I just had the shop do the work. It was about 200 dollars for the parts and labor, and it only took like 45 minutes. Just save yourself the frustration and have a shop do it.
don't replace the joint. replace the axle
A CV boot is found on the axle of a vehicle. To replace the outer boot remove the axle bolt and pull the boot off. The inner boot requires removal of the whole axle.
how to remove, or replace front right axle escape 2004
Much better to replace the whole axle, look at www.happywrenching.com for a guide on how to replace an axle in a Honda Odyssey
The 2000 Ram had u joints, not cv joints at the front axle.
It does have CV joints but, it is best to just swap out the complete axle assembly than to replace only the CV joint. You will spend much time and almost as much money trying to replace the CV joint than to just purchase a reconditioned axle assembly and swap it.
Yes the CV axel will fit from 89- 92 also from 98-92 Toyota Crolla
they make a fork to put in between the transmission and the cv axle that attaches to a slide hammer, supporting the cv axle and using the slide hammer the axle should pop out (note I have seen the fork damage the housing of the cv axle if it is a very stumbern fit).
