Remove the door panel, then there will be a steel plate behind that, remove that also and unplug all power features on the door. It a very tight spot, and you'll have to remove your lock form the old one and put it in the new one. you'll see the clips, release them and it'll come out. needle nose pliers and long screwdrivers will help

Sounds like you left a retaining clip loose on one of the pull rods.

Open the door, and look at the door in the area that is above the latch. there is one bolt that looks out of place... remove it, and then pivot the handle out and away from the side the bolt was located (towards the front of vehicle if on left side, etc) then before pulling out, look at the old one, and take note of how the handle is attached, so that you can attach to the new one in the same mannor.

It is not too hard, I have had to replace on similar in my '95 Chevy and now I have to replace one in my '99 Tahoe. You can get the assembly at your local parts store. The assemble includes the locking mechanism as well. Part is approximately $30 - $40. I believe yo do not have to pull the door panel off, Just the molding around the handle. Here you may have to drill out the welds by the factory. Then you use the screws that come with the part. Make sure you notice the way the linkage is connected to the handle on the broken unit. install in reverse order. I hope this helps Pete
