The 390 CID. engine requires oil pan removal and the rear main bearing cap must be removed.. the rear main seal is in two halves one half in the bearing cap and the other in the engine block... With the bearing cap removed use a torques screwdriver to tap the upper seal around the block recess till it can be grabbed from the other side with pliers to remove it.. The bearing cap side is easily removed by prying it out.. lubricate the upper half of the seal with engine oil and start the seal into the recess in the engine block making sure that the seal lip is facing the front of the engine, slide the seal around the crankshaft till it is flush with the other side of the block on the opposite side of the crankshaft... Install the bearing cap half of the seal into the recess in the bearing cap, make sure the seal lip faces to the front of the engine, lubricate the seal with engine oil... Wipe the oil from the mating ends of the seal and put a small amount of silicone sealer on the cap edges of the seal.. Install the rear main bearing cap and torque to specs. Install a new oil pan gasket, change the oil filter, fill with oil and run engine till warm, check for leaks.. That's it your done!
