u have to pull the driveshaft knock out the seal and install a new one, but if it is leaking the bushing needs to be replaced and u would need a bushing driver to install it. u can purchace a seal and bushing kit but the bushing is harder to replace

The yoke on the driveshaft of a gm turbo 350 trans has a small vent hole in it. If the trans is over filled to the point fluid comes out of it you will do serious damage to the trans if you try to drive the vehicle.

So what you are wanting to doWILL NOT WORK.Now you can take your trans. completely apart and remove the center shaft, andgo buy a short shaft for your trans. Then put it all back together. Remove thetransfur case housing on your trans. and install a regular tail shaft housing ontoyour trans. Plus a 2 wheel drive drive shaft. And you now have a 2- wheel dr.

It will bolt up to the engine, but the cross member will not work as the 400 is longer than the trans. in the 86. You will also need to make a down shift switch as the 86 trans. has a detent cable, the 400 has an electric switch. There is also the driveshaft issue.
