How to replace the jack & spare tire in a 2000 Mercury Cougar:
The secret is to open the jack about 1/3 open, forming a diagonal and placing it over the trunk floor bolt holes. The short bolt goes through the jack handle lever hole into the bolt hole towards the front of the vehicle. Tighten down now before you install the tire.
Next, place spare tire over the jack with the roomy side of the wheel face down to accommodate the jack.
Screw the long bolt with the metal strap clamp through the center hole of the wheel & into the rear hole on the trunk floor. Screw down tightly.
