This is a job that can be done easily at home and avoid paying a lot of money to a repair shop. You will however need the right tools to do it. Tools you will need to easily change the spark plugs in a F-150 with a 5.4 V8 3/8" drive A variety of 3/8" extensions lenths (preferably wobble extentions) 3/8" universal joint 5/8" spark plug socket 5/8" deep socket (not needed if you have a 6" or longer 5.8" spark plug socket) 1/4" drive 7MM short socket 1/4" universal joint First remove the items in your way to access the coils for each plug. The fuel rail assembly does not need to be removed but doing so will allow easier access to the bolts that hold down the coils. If you remove the fuel rails relieve fuel pressure first or gas will spew from the rails where the injectors fit. Remove each coil using the 1/4" drive and 7MM socket (use universals and extensions as needed). Insert the spark plug socket in the plug well to extract the plug (the rubber insert in the spark plug socket will hold the old plug in the socket so it can be removed from the plug well). Insert the new plug into the spark plug socket just enough to hold the plug. Insert the new plug and start the threads. Remove the spark plug socket and use the 5/8" deep socket to tighten the plug to the required torque (be careful when using the deep socket that you don't damage the top of the new plug) If you use a longer spark plug extension Remove / replace the 7 remaining plugs using the above procedure. The fuel rail gets in the way on the driver's side of the motor mainly with the #7 coil. The bolt that holds the coil to the manifold is close to the rail which does not allow much room to remove the bolt. When putting everything back together - be sure to not overtighten the bolts that hold the coils down. If you're manifold is black it's plastic and the threads you are putting the bolt into are in a brass insert. These things are pretty tough but they can strip and start turning in the hole. That can cause many more problems that could lead to needed a new intake manifold. Depending on your curcumstances, this job could take anywhere from 1 hour to half a day. Just take your time and be sure you reconnect everything you have to take apart. If you remove the fuel rails make sure the O ring around the top of the injector is ok. If not you'll need to replace those. Again this is not a hard job to do but can be if you don't have the right tools. You can also learn a lot about your truck that could be useful in the future. Be sure to clean the rubber boots on the bottom of the coil. The plugs are down inside a 6" hole that can collect a bunch of garbage. Changing the plugs is a good time to clean everything in the area. Hope this helps

Where are the spark plugs '02 f150 5.4?

The plugs are located on the inboard side of the cylinder head near the intake manifold, under or near the fuel injection rails. You do not have spark plug wires, but rather 8 separate ignition coils that sit on top of the spark plugs.
