How do you replace the starter on a 1996 Ford Ranger?
everyone should have a manual for their vehicle, and a professional shop manual should be available at your local library in the reference section, make copies of the appropriate pages, and good luck:)
My 1996 Ford Ranger only clicks when the key is turned could it be the starter and where is it found?
It can be a dead battery, or a bad starter, the click sound you hear is from the starter relay mounted on the inner fender near the battery, use a test lite and make sure power is coming out of the relay and going to the starter, always replace both the starter and relay if either is found to be bad
i have a 1996 ford ranger 2.3 4 cylinder automatic ,just had the trans rebuild and driveshaft but theres still a bit of play comming from the differential ea. time i either put it in gear i feel a boom from the rear (not the driveshaft nor trans) is it a big job to replace the rear diff? and $$$ ???? It is located at the underside of the engine to the Passenger's side of the transmission. It's going to be bolted to the transmission where it meets the engine. You will need to climb under the car to get to it. Good luck!. The previous answer said it was on driver's side. However, just coming from under my 1996 Ford Ranger XLT, it's on the passenger side.
First, you will want to disconnect the battery cables from the battery. Next go to your starter which will be under the truck at the front of the transmission. You will need to unbolt the starter from the transmission and disconnect the electrical wires from the starter. Remember where each wire goes to, then replace new starter by going in reverse.
