remove the water neck located on the intake manifold on the upper hose coming from the radiator and remove the thermostat, clean the surfaces of the intake and the water neck insert new thermostat in the same direction as old one making sure it was correct, and replace the gasket, as the new thermostat should have relative markings showing direction of flow. some applications may require a very small amount of sealant, I personally use grease as a binder only to hold gasket in place during install. Very little needed just enough to coat the surface to hold in place hope this helps
