Remove the trans pan and then the filter.

If the pan is on the front of the transmission, it cannot be replaced without rebuilding the transmission; because the bearings must be removed in order to get to the filter.

Ford Contour transmissions do not have removeable filters. There is a metal screen which generally never needs to be replaced.

No there is no filter ur best bet will be a transmission flush at a oil change place

It is located inside the Transmission You will have to take the transmission apart it is in the middle of the trany. It would be cheaper to get a new trany.

Basically, you don't. The filter is not easily available in the CD4E automatic transmission. It doesn't have a bottom pan, so it would need to be disassembled to get at the filter.

Drop the pan, replace the filter and gasket, replace the pan and add transmission fluid.

The contour transmission is made for only the transmission fluid to be changed,it has a metal screen inside of the side pan which can only be got to by removal of the transmission its self, ford only recommends you change the fluid, check the service manual, and the Haynes manual is the best..
