How do you replace the turn signal switch on a 1988 Chevrolet Celebrity?

To replace the turn signal switch on you 1988 Chevy Celebrity:
1. Remove the ground wire from the battery, Use gloves to avoid getting battery acid on your skin.
2. Use a puller and remove the steering wheel.
3. Use a lock plate depressor to remove the lock plate. Take note of how the spring and signal canceling cam come apart so you can put them back. The lock plate only goes back one way.
4. Remove the screw that holds the turn signal lever in place. Take note of how it comes apart so you will be able to put it back in place.
5. Remove the under dash trim.
6 Unplug the wire harness to the signal switch wiring near the base of the steering column. Attach a wire to the harness that goes into the steering column.
7. Remove the hazard light switch knob.
8. Remove the three screws that hold the switch in place. You will have to move the switch to get to some of the screws. DO Not let the screws slip down into the column.
they can be a pain to get back out.
9. Gently pull the switch out of the steering column bringing the wire harness up with it. The wire you attached will be used to pull the new wiring down thru the steering column. Detach the wire leaving it in the column.
10. Attach the wire to the new switch harness and pull the new wire down thru the column so that the switch will settle into place
Reverse the steps to complete the installation.
