How do you replace the water pump on a 1997 Cadillac DeVille?

here is your answer,the 4.6 models require a special tool to extract the water pump from the coolant crossover housing,this special tool is expensive and the removal procedure is difficult,but you may be able to rent the tool from an auto store.disconnect negative terminal of the battery. drain the coolant.remove the water pump drivebelt.first the drivebelt shield must be removed.remove the air filter housing.remove the secondary AIR check valve bracket from the coolant crossover housing,if equipped.remove the lower radiator hose from the thermostat housing.remove the water pump bypass hose from the coolantcrossover assembly.remove the water pump cover.install water pump removal tool into the slotted tangs on the water pump and rotate clockwise to remove the water pump from the housing.clean the coolant crossover housing mating surfaces at the rear of the housing and the cover to remove any material left from the old seals.clean the suirfaces with lacquer thinner.install a new o-ring in the groove and install the new water pump. if u need anymore help email me at mr1159@Yahoo.com
