How to remove the window motor from the regulator
How to replace a window and regulator on a 1998 checy malibu?
change the window regulator
The panel where the regulator is detachable. You will be able to remove it very easily. When you remove the panel you will see the way how the regulator can be replaced.
need to know how cables connect on window regulator
I found having a repair manual specifically for your make/model/year a great start. I'm in the same boat and this is what I have found out and will be doing next weekend. First, I had the a screw placed in the regulator to keep the window up until I am able to replace the window regulator. The regulator comes complete with the motor, so what I will do is remove the current regulator have a friend holding up the window has I am doing this so I wont have to remove the window (to skip a step), then just attach the new regulator in the same place as the original.
first take of the door panel. Next you will see the window regulator. The there is going to be 4 bolts or so that you are going to need to take off, after that unhook the window. Then pull the whole window regulator out and replace the whole thing
It is inside the door, bolts to the regulator(the linkage that moves the glass up and down).
Cut the cables with a side cutters. Tape the window up until you can replace the regulator. The old one is toast
1997 thru 1999
The plastic clips on you window regulator have broken. You need to replace the whole thing if those clips have broken. Take the door pannel off and see if there are plastic peices in the bottom of the door.
1999 Grand Prix Window ProblemI have had two 1999 grand prix cars that both had the drivers window stop working. One of them was just a bad switch that was inexpensive to have fixed. The other 99 Pontiac needed a new window regulator which required the whole window assembly from the dealer for around $300 not counting labor. I found an aftermarket part for around $200 and I plan on doing the repair myself. Make sure you rule out the switch before buying expensive parts. Good Luck.
