Your MIL ( malfunction indicator light ) will be lit and a code for your O2 sensor will be logged.
The cause of an exhaust indicator light in a Volkswagen Beetle is probably an oxygen sensor. There also a possibility that an exhaust pipe is plugged or there is a hole due to rust.
Th oil indicator light in most cars is attached to an oil pressure sensor. The sensor is designed to warn of low pressure to prevent engine damage.
You can not. Replacement of the oxygen sensor is the only way.
you don't, replace the sensor as it's bad.
vss sensor
I had my check indicator light on and the first time is was a sensor that controlled the amount of fuel going to the engine, it failed and was starving the engine of fuel. I had to have the sensor replaced (expensive) Second time it was the Oxygen sensor that goes into the flexible exhaust pipe. The pipe had developed a leak and was causing the sensor to go off. I had the pipe replaced and reset the sensor by disconnecting the battery for an hour or two. It seemed to do the trick but the exhaust guy said the sensor is barely holding in there and will eventually fail. The MIL (malfunction indicator lamp/check engine light) can be set by anything from a loose gas cap to an engine perfomance issue. If the light is steadily illuminated it can be driven but should be checked out sooner than later. If light is flashing do not drive the vehicle.
The oxygen sensor is one of many things that could turn the check engine light on.The oxygen sensor is one of many things that could turn the check engine light on.
There is a failure in the oxygen sensor heater.
You do not reset it, it is a fault code. It is not a routine maintenance indicator. Fix the problem and the light will go out.
how i found the change the oxygen sensor in 2002 vw passat
When the oxygen sensor goes bad, the check engine light goes on.
