How do you reset the SRS light on a 96 Honda Civic Do the same procedures used for 99 and up models work?

i had the same problem on my 97 Honda civic lx. the check engin elight came on adn i called my dealor(aka my best friend) he said just unplug the battery for like 2 min or so and the brain wil restet itself.

This is incorrect. Yes the procedure is the same for 1996-2000. See them below:

These are the instructions out of the Honda Service Manual for 1996-2000 Civics:

1.) Make sure the ignition switch is OFF.

2.) Connect the SCS service connector to the MES connector. Do not use a jumper wire.

3.) Turn the ignition switch ON.

4.) The SRS indicator light comes on for about six second and goes off. Remove the SCS service connector from the MES connector within 4 seconds after the SRS indicator light went off.

5.) The SRS indicator light comes on again. Reconnect the SCS service connector to the MES connector within 4 seconds after the SRS indicator light comes on.

6.) The SRS indicator light goes off. Remove the SCS service connector from the MES connector within 4 seconds.

7.) The SRS indicator light indicates that the memory is erased by blinking two times.

8.) Turn the ignition swith OFF, and wait for ten seconds.

Ok first you're asking what the SCS service connector is. Basically it's a jumper wire. It just has a connector so you can easily connect and disconnect it. You can in fact you a jumper wire. It just might make it a little more difficult.

Now you want to know where there MES connector is. It's a yellow 2 wire connector located underneath the dashboard near the fuse panel.
