Why is your oil light staying on in your Lincoln ls and why is it making a knocking noise?

I would say your oil pump is not working. Assuming of course there is oil in your engine. Don't run it until you can have it checked by a mechanic because a blown engine is a lot worse than just replacing the oil pump.

If you change the oil pan is it a good idea to change the oil pump?

Oil pumps are pretty durable but Id say if you are having a low oil pressure issue then definately. But a good high volume (NOT HIGH PRESSURE!!) oil pump is a huge improvement over stock. PLUS they are cheap. Id say its worth the peace of mind seeins how you are right there and it only takes one bolt.

Where is the oil pump on a 2002 mercury villager?

Basically, it is behind the crankshaft pulley on the outside of the engine. To help visualize its' position, locate the oil filter mount. That is part of the oil pump. The timing belt, crank pulley, oil pan, and power steering pump must all be removed to gain access. Did you say you were thinking of replacing the timing belt anyway? Go for the water pump and belt tensioner too while you're at it.

Say does the 91 tempo gl have a fuse for the oil pump?

An oil pump is completely mechanically operated, and is internal to the engine. There is no fuse, because since it is not an electrical componet, there is no electricity involved in it's operation. If it has failed, the engine will have to be at least partially disassembled to service.
