(assuming that the dot on the cam sprocket is next to the one on the crank so they meet each other now being tdc piston 1 or you can do a compression test to find tdc of piston 1)First disable the ignition and fuel injection (your carburetor) Ive done it on a 350. Piston one has to be on top dead center. take out the spark plug and put your thumb over the hole and have some one crank the engine until the cmpression blows your finger out. it is now on TDC. now the distributor (take the cap off) has to be pointing to piston one. then put the cap on. and the firing order is ontop of the intake manifold on the fromt. start from 1 and work your way clockwise. the distributor has to be sitting all the way down. fasten it to where it is just snug and you can rotate it. (enable fuel and ignition systems) now try and turn the engine on and get it to idle to where it is perfect. i didit by ear so try and listen to it. your going to be rotaing the distributor. (that's where your timing it) now get your timing light out and finally time it. that's the way i did and it should be the same for all chevy350's that i know of.
