Best Answer

You can't stop in the air. If the plane goes too slowly, it loses the air friction that is holding it up, and it falls. You have to be on the ground to stop the plane.

Can a plane stop in the mid air?

A plane can not completely stop in the air unless it is a special type of plane. Normal passenger or commercial planes as well as military planes can not stop completely in mid air though some helicopters can stop in mid air.

Is it possible to stop a passenger plane in the air?

Planes do not stop in the air because if they do not move forward at a sufficient speed, they will fall to the ground. If for some reason it were to become necessary for a plane to stop in the air, and if we had time to plan this in advance, I would arrange for the plane to be tethered to a huge zeppelin flying just above it. Then it could stop in the air, and hang from the zeppelin. ===================================== A practical way to answer the question by thinking about it: If it were possible to stop aircraft in the air, then why do you suppose all of that land and money would be spent building and paving mile-long runways ? All aircraft require continual motion of some of their parts, to keep them aloft.

Can a passenger plane stop in mid air?

No it cannot. Even with forward momentum, it could not be said to have stopped.

How fast can a plane stop?

it depends on the plane

How does flying in an airplane effect hearing?

There is a loss of hearing sometimes, due to pressure differences. In order for a plane to fly as high as it does, the cabin is pressurized, like pumping air into a balloon. There is a difference in the pressure of the air in the plane and the air in your ears. The air in the plane pushes in on your eardrums to the point where they can't vibrate. You hear due to the vibration of your eardrum and the vibration of the tiny bones in your ears. To stop this you need to equalize the air pressure in your ears to match the pressure in the plane. You can do this by swallowing, yawning, or chewing gum.

Is sudden braking in the air dangerous with an airplane?

? the wheels on a plane are usually not even turning in the air so applying the brakes is futile. Air brakes are small baffles that extend out of the wing and help slow the plane down but it is not a stop by any means. A stall is the only actual (air stop) I know of and that is when the critical angle of attack is exceeded and the wings can no longer create lift. The plane will now have the flying characteristic of a rock, or maybe some bird $&!t until the wings get air flowing around them again. A stall can be dangerous if it is unintentional, or not enough altitude for a recovery. It may also lead to a spin.
