You can type a number of symbols easily on a mac. Unlike on a Windows computer where you have to press down num-lock, hold down shift, and press a complicated string of numbers, all you have to do is hold down the option key and press a button. You can create a new symbol, by pressing the shift key. For example, option + k = ˚ , however, option + shift + k = .
Some other usefull ones are:
option + ? = ÷
option + g = ©
option + ; = …
option + z = Ω
option + v = √
option + , = ≤
option + / = ≥
Or if you want the list of every symbol made then just go into System Preferences/ Keyboard and under the Keyboard menu just check the box for "Show Keyboard & Charactor Viewer in menu bar" and you have instant access in the menu bar whenever you want something.
If you open the Keyboard viewer and press Option, Shift, etc, it will show you the keyboard mapping.
On a Mac documents are typed by using a keyboard utilising the full range of alphanumeric keys presented - usually in a traditional QWERTY arrangement.
You can type a document on a computer using Windows word or try any other open source software's like Open office.
