i use it for a small amount of added acceleration like when im cutting in front of someone.well im sure you get the point.
there is a power button on your shifter for extra power

Toggle the POWER button to the left of the gear shifter.
The power button is a form of overdrive. It drops the transmission one gear down. Handy for passing or entering the freeway when you need a little more power and acceleration.
The shifter button is a rod with an angle on it and returned by a spring. Normally when this happens the rod inside the shifter handle has worn out or broken. If it has a round knob w/ button in center, the shaft is froze or rusted. Either case the knob has to be removed. I think there is a solonoid in thr shifter base , when the brake pedal pushes it unlocks the shifter. Try good luck, something connects to the shifter Cavaliers have cables. You must have power , battery power!!!
the power button on the side of the shift lever has been pressed. press it again & it'll go out.
The Sport button on the shifter for the 1991 Honda Accord is to change the motor so that it will have a little more power. The RPMs should go up by about 500 RPMs.

the only button I know by the shifter is the for economy setting and power setting..from what I understand it changes the parameters in the computer control module to give the car more power and pep on the power setting or on economy setting it changes them to where the engine runs more efficiently. there is also a button that is usually on the dash near the shifter that controls the traction control if your car is equiped with that option, but that is usually on the dash, but I have seen them next to the shifter...if it is that button when you engage it you will get a light on the instrament panel showing traction control engaged. Turbo button when used drops the trany shifts into a lower gear to allow for quicker speed pickup time. but be careful not to over RPM the motor. keep a close eye on the RMP gauge. i had the same problem, mines a 89 too. that being said, mine has the switch on the Console,Not the shifter, and i discovered i had to run a power supply to the middle pole, then switch works fine. i did this by running a Good wire from fusebox to switch, from Power lead that Only comes on when car is running. otherwise,it will stay on all the time n kill your battery. anyone know what that button on the Side of the shifter knob is actually for?
It is not a "warning" light but an indicator that you have pressed the button near the shifter to put the tranny into tow mode.
