One way is to join the Community Outreach program and become a WikiGuide Greeter. WikiGuides have access to a list of new contributors. They go to the new contributor's message board and welcome them to the site. Community Outreach has an ongoing WikiGuide contest, with a prize each month for the WikiGuide who greets the most new contributors.
