Help writing an essay on World War 2?

When you write a paper, you have a point that you're trying to make, right? You've done research on this point, and the whole paper focuses on that point....that's the thesis. Its your argument that you make in your paper. In the introduction, you introduce your thesis, letting the reading know what you will be discussing/arguing.

For the body of the paper, you prove your point by bringing in examples and evidence that you found in your research. In the conclusion, you again state your thesis and make it obvious to the reader that you have succeeded in proving your thesis.

Now, your teacher doesn't want you to just write a paper on WWII. S/he wants you to choose a topic/theme that interests you about the war and write about that. A good thesis is something that is debatable.....since you are, after all, arguing a point. Examples might be the 'real' cause of the war, effects of the war, how minorities were treated during the war (both in the military and on the home front), how things might have happened differently, etc. Just choose something and go with it. Throughout college and grad school, that was the hardest thing for me: choosing a thesis. Once you decide what you'll be writing on it gets alot easier.
