How do your fix the rear tailgate latch and lock on a 2000 Chevy Blazer?

BLAZER REAR DOOR and HATCH PROBLEM SOLVED If you hear the release motor when you push the button on the rear gate but the hatch or door won't open. . . .by lifting the gate latch on the INSIDE of the car and wedging a stick to hold it open a couple of inches, go out of the car to the back and you can just see the brass lever that releases the hatch. A screwdriver carefully inserted can easily lift the lever and open the gate. There are about 10 or so nuts to unscrew to lift the interior panel off the gate, and the lift latch handle also needs removing (2 screws, philip's head) The only other part that needs loosening are the rods that are secured in the plastic clips, not hard to figure out. Once the panel is removed you can see the mechanism that is spring loaded and it is very likely that this is the part that is broken. If it is not connected to a 2" brass arm, then you need to fix this part as it is the mechanical portion that pulls that lever you had to pop with the scredriver. Sorry I cannot include a picture, but I am on the way to fix that part myself right now on my '96 blazer . . . .
