The fork fits around a smooth part of the gear assembly. As you shift the fork slides on a rod, meshing the turning gears in the correct place to go into the gears chosen. A bent or worn fork will cause the transmission not go completely into gear or only partially go in, wearing the gear teeth.

1994 Chevy k2500 just did clutch slave and master cylinders and wont engage why?

Just had same problem and replaced both also. Still not engaging. Thought I was going to have to replace clutch due to bad pressure plate. Took transmission off engine and the release fork for the clutch had worn through on the pivot point. This is a recurring problem from what I have searched. Has to be replaced and a ball pivot replaced also for the release fork. Both are dealer parts if you want the right parts for the job. Searched after market but ones I looked at did not meet the size I needed. Good luck.

How do you adjust the clutch petal on a 1988 Chevy truck with manual transmission so that it engages father away from the floor?

Ok, the adjustment rod that connects to your clutch fork, it has threads ,, all you do is take out the pin on the rod and push on the clutch fork till the rod comes out, i think on mine i had to tighten it to where the nut was closer to the clutch fork, if you adjust it too much it will be hard to put in because of the pressure plate firmness, i tightend mine to where its hard to put it back in , this got me to engage like in the middle of releasing the pedal, ,,,,that's how you do it ,, , and that's how i did it, good luck
