• You don't become transgendered, you either are or are not.

  Transgendered is a blanket term, to cover everything from crossdressers to transsexuals.

  If you were born a girl, and want to become a boy, then you are are transgendered boy.

  If you wish to transition all the way, to have boy parts. Then you are a transsexual boy. Or transsexual man, depending on age ;) . The first stage, is to find an experienced gender therapist. They will evaluate your mental state, and help you decide if transitioning is really what you want or just a fantasy (it's rarely just a fantasy if you seek help to do it). Once they are certain you are transsexual, they will send you to see an endocrinologist. The Endocrinologist run tests, and then prescribe medications to block you female hormones, and testosterone (if you are old enough, 16 usually).Once you have the testosterone shots, DO NOT increase your doses without your endocrinologist's say so. Overdosing on hormones, especially testosterone can have dire consequences.

  You will have to live as male for atleast 1 year before having sex reassignment surgery. During that time, you should contact an plastic surgeon with experience in FtM surgeries, and ask them for details on the procedures and the cost. Don't limit yourself to one surgeon, shop around to find the best surgeon you can afford. Ask for pictures of their work, and a list of references (previous clients) you can talk to.

It is a long process (years) of psychological, emotional and physical testing and conditioning. For people who believe there was a mistake in their genetic makeup that caused their body to develop into a gender that doesn't match their brain (so to speak), the turmoil is very real. If, after years of evaluation, it is determined that transforming the physical body to match the brain is warranted, surgery is performed to transform the female parts of the body into functional male parts. (or visa verse, depending on the gender to be changed). The appropriate hormones are also needed to support the physical changes of the surgery so the rest of the body looks consistent. Breast form or not, a beard grows or doesn't, the voice may change, etc.
