Electric or Manual

It is really just a switch that is kept from being grounded by about 8lbs of oil pressure. More elaborate ones will have resistors for use with electric guages.

No, a defective oil pressure sensor will not harm the engine as long as the oil pressure is what it should be. However, how do you know what the pressure is if the sensor is bad. Replace the sensor so that you can receive a warning if the oil pressure drops below what is optimum.

The 1995 Nissan Pathfinder oil pressure sensor can be found next to the oil filter. The oil pressure sensor measures the oil pressure in the engine.
