How far you can drive “on empty,” or when the low fuel light illuminates, is typically somewhere between 25 and 108 miles, according to a chart from car repair and maintenance company YourMechanic. The chart looks at the top 50 selling vehicles in the U.S. in 2015, and for each of them, it details how much fuel is left when the gas light goes on and roughly how many miles you can drive without running totally dry.
How far your fumes will take you depends on several factors, including your driving habits, the road conditions, and what type of car you have. It’s important to note that although sometimes driving on empty is a necessity, it should not be made a habit, as it can do serious damage to your vehicle by sending debris that rest near the bottom of the tank up through the fuel pump.
I'm not sure ... but this topic was the center of a classic Seinfeld episode with Kramer (the "Dealership", #167).
Depends on the vehicle and the size of the fuel tank. It is best to fill up and again when it comes on so you know how much fuel you have.
A Big factor people don't know is that running low on fuel causes your fuel pump to fail prematurely. The fuel pump uses fuel as a coolant..so running low often will result in a BIG$$$ repair.
anywhere between 30 and 50 mile to get to the nerest gas station
It can be however long your car is set for i am set for 30 miles after the light comes on and that is what it usually is set to in cars
On most cars the low fuel light comes on at two gallons left giving you plenty of time to find a gas station even in the countryside.
It's all based on current barometric pressure and ground surface temperature where you are driving. Without knowledge of those factors any answer given is just a guess. 32 minutes is my guess.
Knowing how many miles you can drive on an empty gas tank prevents ... or how few – miles you can actually drive after the light comes on.
Until the vehicle runs out of fuel...
15 miles.
After the low fuel light comes on in a 2002 Ford Explorer, you should be able to drive at least another 10 miles. The low fuel light usually comes on when there is 2 gallons left in the tank.
i can drive 50km at least before running out of fuel.
It is important to pay attention to the warning lights of a vehicle. The fuel light comes on because the car is low on gasoline.
EDC Stands for Electronic Diesel Control, A similar system to Fuel injection. If the light is on steady, then Drive the vehicle with caution, but get it seen to as soon as possible. If the light is flashing, don't drive the vehicle, and get it checked out immediately.
Most vehicles' low fuel light comes on with one to two gallons of gas left. If you know how many miles per gallon your vehicle gets, just figure on one gallon to be safe. For instance... if your car or truck gets 20 miles per gallon, when the light comes on you should figure you have 20 miles AT MOST to refuel.
In my 2007 Ford F150 truck I drove about 30 miles after the fuel light came on.
On most vehicles when the fuel light comes on you have about 1.5 to 2 gallons of fuel left in the tank. On a vehicle without a fuel light when the fuel gauge reaches empty it may very well be empty.
That vehicle holds 17 US gallons of fuel when totally empty. So, the next time the gas light comes on drive to the closest gas station and fill the tank up. Note the amount of fuel it took to fill it up and subtract that amount from 17 US gallons. Now you know how much fuel you have left when the light comes on. Take your average mpg (should be aprox 27 mpg) and the amount of fuel left and do the math.
you do not want to find out ! before the light comes on , head for the gos station, or you will be relaceing the fuel pump at a cost of $900.00 big ones......and that is just the price of the pump!!!!!!
It varies from vehicle to vehicle.
How many miles you can go after the low fuel warning lights comes on will depend your exact vehicle. Most vehicles will allow you to go for approximately 25 miles.
