Purchasing a pre-owned (used) car online can save time and money, but if a buyer doesn't do some research; it can be confusing and frustrating. Therefore, I will try to answer the most frequently asked questions regarding buying a used vehicle online. I hope that this article will help make the job easier.

Q: Why should I buy a car online?

A: Buying or shopping for a car online can save you time, money and a lot of driving. By going online you can look at the inventory of various dealerships and decide which dealer has the vehicle you want in the price range you're willing to pay.

Q: How do I know if a dealer is reputable?

A: You won't know unless you do your research. See if they're a member of the Better Business Bureau; ask your friends if they are familiar with the dealer and most important, read online reviews from customers. Online reviews will tell more about a dealership than any other source. If customers are happy or unhappy with the dealer, they'll let everyone know.

Q: I found the vehicle I want online, but it's out of state. What should I do next?

A: Once you've found the vehicle that you like, contact the dealer and ask what documented information they have on the vehicle. Do they have Carfax (A vehicle reporting agency that shows actual mileage, registration info, and whether the vehicle has been involved in an accident). Also ask if the dealer's service department have ASE certified techs and mechanics. Are they AAA approved? Gathering all the information now will save you headaches in the future. A lot can be determined by the attitude of the dealership in responding to your questions and requests.

Q What about shipping my vehicle to my home?

A: Normally, the buyer will put a down payment to close the bid. Next you will have to arrange for financing and a shipping/arrival date. The dealer (included below is a dealer I worked with when I sold cars in Denver) will help with arrangements to ship your pre-owned vehicle and recommend a transporter that they've used or trust. T.A.S. Auto Shipping is one that I am familiar with and is used by many dealers. Make sure that you go over shipping arrangements thoroughly and understand what fees, taxes and permits are required.. All shipping in and out of states is governed by state and Federal Laws that must be adhered to by the dealer, shipper and the buyer. I can't stress enough how important it is to find a dealer with experience and reliability in this area.
