That was the birthplace of Islam. The prophet Muhammed PBUH was born in Saudi Arabia in or near the city of Mecca, where the traditional holy pilgrimage is preformed each year.

From there the Muslim empire expanded west out to northern Africa and Spain; and east to India.

Going through the History of mankind, we find that most of the holy Prophets were born in the area considered Middle East. Religion was already deep rooted in and around Middle East. When the Muslim forces and traders entered the countries of the Middle East, the people living there soon accepted the Universal teachings of Islam.
