3g is third generation mobile phone telephony. Typically refers to the current generation of data transmission capabilities over a cellular network for internet access and real-time video. The major 3G technologies are EV-DO for CDMA networks, such as used by Verizon and Sprint, and HSDPA for GSM networks for carriers such as AT&T and T-Mobile. On the other hand WiMAX allows a user, for example, to browse the Internet on a laptop computer without physically connecting the laptop to a router, hub or switch via an Ethernet cable. Mobile WiMAX network comes to the operator's rescue at this point, which uses ASN gateway that aggregates subscriber and control traffic from base stations within an access network.
