Its a fairly large difference. A hot air balloon is meant for multiple people and it propels itself and maintains a high altitude by burning gas, making it float. A parachute is just meant for slowing someone's speed while falling

What is the parachute valve at the top of a hot air balloon is used for?

The valve allows hot air to escape, slowing the ascent of the balloon, or if the valve is left open long enough it will cause descent.

How does a hot air balloon gain altitude?

Altitude is controlled by the propane burner and the parachute valve. The parachute valve is an opening at the top of the balloon envelope. When closed, it traps hot air from the burner inside the balloon, making the hot air balloon rise. When opened, it allows hot air to escape, and the hot air balloon descends. The reason a hot air ballon rises is because the density of the balloon is less than the density of the surrounding air. Its the same thing as "why does a boat float". In the case of the balloon, the operator modulates the flame on and off to maintain the desired altitude - increase the flame, and the balloon goes up - decrease or shut off the flame, and the balloon goes down. A better metaphor to a boat is a submarine - add ballast and the submarine goes down - blow ballast and the submarine goes up.

Why does heat makes the parachute fly?

heat makes a parachute fly because when hot air goes into a balloon shape it blows up and then lifts into the air it acts like helium o yeahhhh

Why does hot air balloons float?

To put it simply, hot air balloons rise due to heat produced by the burning of propane, the heat travels up through the balloon's valve into the balloon itself (the envelope) and up to the parachute valve. Since heat rises, the hot air balloon its self rises. Better answer: a boat floats on water because it weighs less than the water it replaces. likewise, a hot air balloon floats, because the weight of the total balloon + hot air is less then the volume of cold air it replaces. Air has a weight too, but normally you don't notice.

Why does a hot air balloon fly?

A hot air balloon flies because it is filled with hot air. Hot air rises and causes the balloon to lift from the ground.

Why is an hot air balloon called a hot air balloon?

Because the fire or heating device heats the air in the top section ( the actual balloon ) and hot air rises... so the hot air trapped in the balloon makes the balloon rise :)

What objects use upthrust?

many things use upthrust, some i can name are: a hot-air-balloon, a aeroplane a parachute and possibly a elevator.
