Much of our landscape is shaped or formed by rivers. Rivers begin high up in the hills and mountains. They flow down to lakes or to the sea. On their way they carve out valleys and create landscape features. Rivers can be managed by people tp provide such things as transport, water and electricity . Occasionally, rivers may flood, killing people and destroying homes. By the way this is a word to word copy out of my year 8 geography book Europe

A river may erode the river bank on the outer bend, and deposit gravel, sand, and mud further downstream to form sandbars, etc. In a valley, the river may meander and form oxbow lakes, and sharp bends. Seasonal flooding may also cause much damage to properties built on the flood-plain.
