A:The Qur'an makes frequent references to stories and characters first mentioned in the Old Testament. The strong evidence of this is that the author of the Qur'an was reasonably familiar with the Old Testament, even if he did not actually copy material from it. Islam teaches that this is because the original Qur'an is in heaven, that God is the author and that it was progressively revealed to Muhammad by the angel Gabriel.
