The Owner's Manual that came with your Honda has some information on checking Transmission Fluid level and the proper level to use, but is less than clear on where to add fluid when low. It says remove the "fill plug" but does not describe where to find the fill plug. It seems that fluid can be added at the same place you check it, through the dipstick hole. This will require a specialized funnel with a very small hole and a long drain tube. The manual recommends Honda ATF-Z1 or DEXRON III fluid. Make sure you are checking it according to the instructions in the Owner's Manual. Overfilling is a big no, no.
I always fill it through the dipstick port. Use a small funnel and do it slowly. A trannyshop suggested this to me and it works fine.
AnswerIf you have a manual transmission in your Honda, there's a fill plug--it's above the drain plug. On an automatic, just about every one I've ever heard of (except on something like an Allison in a dump truck, where fluid is added by the gallon) fills through the dipstick tube. That's just about as good as the joke that is draining an automatic transmission: remove the entire bottom of the transmission and get transmission fluid all over everything. But yeah, through the dipstick tube is how it's done.
On my sons 2000 Honda Odyssey the fill plug is about six inches straight behind the dipstick. You can see it with a flashlight by looking over the back of the air cleaner snorkel and then straight down. It is on the high ridge of the transmission housing. If it is an older model then the plug may not be goldish colored any longer. My son's still has the letters "ATF" stamped on top of the plug. I'm sure you could use the dipstich tube but it is really too small for any funnels that I have seen. You will still need to use a long funnel for the fill plug hole.
Use ONLY genuine Honda ATF DW-1 transmission fluid and nothing else.
DEXRON III fluid
Use Honda ATF-Z.

you have to put it in the dipstick hole.
Yes, of course. A transmission can only hold so much transmission fluid.
where is the brake fluid on a Honda odyssey van

According to Honda, no, it is a lifetime fluid. My advice is to change it every 75,000 miles.
