From experience I have taken both together. But I am no doctor so you might want to check that out before trying. But methadone blocks the full effects of Oxycontin so it's not fun to take together. If you are trying to get off oxy with the methadone I would say wait about 5 or 6 hours. again i am no doctor so ask one before doing this.

∙ 12y agoTechnically you can take them together, however, this is extremely dangerous. Although injury's or death are not common on low dosages of Methadone and use of Oxycontin, i would not recommend it. Especially if you took10mg or more, i would wait at least 24 hours. It should still continue to flow a good amount throughout your bloodstream for at least 10hours.
Depending on the dosage of Methadone you have taken, depends on how long it will not overpower the Oxycontin. Methadone is extremely stronger than Oxycontin, so you may not feel it if you decide not to wait. Some people consider it a waste of an OC.
Not matter what, be care. There are a few stupid doctors that will Rx Oxycontin and Methadone at the same time because they consider it an 'additive' drug. No, they are considered 'Legal Drug Dealers.'

∙ 9y agoAs long as the medication was prescribed for you by a doctor and the doctor is aware that you were taking methadone a few days prior to taking the oxycodone, it should be OK. Only your doctor can advise you on mixing prescription medications.

I just switched over from Suboxone to Methadone 2 months ago & didnt really "feel" the methadone for about 3 days. I waited roughly 24 hours between doses because of all the "horror stories" I have heard, and I didnt get sick at all. Methadone and Suboxone are a strange thing when it comes to what to take first and vice versa. I was on 110milligrams of methadone and had to stop altogether without weaning because a broken down car. Nine days later I took 16mgs. of Suboxone at a new clinic and was deathly sick for two days. This is because methadone is a full opiate while Suboxone is a partial opiate. So if you take Suboxone and then Methadone, you will either feel the methadone or feel nothing(depending on your Suboxone dose) BUT if you take Methadone,especially for a long period of time, and then take Suboxone, God have mercy on you, it can throw you into AWS(Acute Withdrawal Syndrome) and its like a flu times 10 with insomnia
