Unemployment benefits last for 26 weeks in New York, unless due to high unemployment rates extensions apply. In any case, it makes no difference if you are working, not working, or even on unemployment compensation, if you qualify for SS under its OWN requirements, you will continue to receive SS as the 2 programs are not connected and one has nothing to do with the other. Yes. They are 2 different programs and as long as you qualify for each of them individually, you can receive them both.

Can i draw social security and unemployment at the same time in South Carolina?

Yes you can. There is no reduction in your unemployment benefits if you are also drawing Social Security. Like all other claiments for unemployment, you have to be actively seeking work, etc. to qualify for Unemployment. The two systems do not conflict. See the Related Link below for more details.

Can you collect unemployment benefits while you are on Social Security for widows?

You can generally still collect unemployment while collecting social security, unless it is social security disability...even then you still might be able to. I worked for the Unemployment Office & just an FYI, they do not know if you are on social security and are unable to check, so if you do not say anything, they will never know.

Can you collect NH unemployment and social security benefit at the same time in NH?

Yes, if you qualify under each program. Both Social Security and the State of Michigan allow workers to collect unemployment compensation and Social Security benefits at the same time without applying an offset or penalty to either check.Bear in mind that you have to be actively looking for, and willing to accept, a full-time job, per your unemployment agreement. You can collect retirement benefits as early as age 62, but you can't actually retire while you're also accepting unemployment compensation.

Are your Social Security benefits deducted from your unemployment benefits?

Most states no longer penalize Social Security recipients with unemployment offsets, but five states -- Illinois, Louisiana, South Dakota, Utah and Virginia -- currently reduce weekly unemployment benefits by 50% of your prorated monthly Social Security check. South Dakota and Virginia have repealed their offset laws, but still have a provision allowing them to deduct Social Security benefits from unemployment checks when state unemployment funds fall below a pre-determined threshold. The long recession and high unemployment rate triggered the offset in both states.

Can you collect both unemployment benefits and Social Security in Louisiana?

I believe this answer is slightly incorrect -- "Yes, you can. Under "Non monetary Issues" > "Disqualifications" item (f) on page 5 of the Related Link below, Social Security benefits are excluded from the disqualifying chargeable benefits you receive." As I understand it, people who live in Louisiana and Illinois and receive social security payments and are eligible for unemployment benefits will have money deducted from their unemployment checks. In illinois, half a person's weekly social security payment is deducted from that person's weekly unemployment check. Illinois AARP has made repealing the social security offset law a priority.

Can you collect unemployment in Nevada while you are filing for Social Security disability?

It depends on many factors. I worked for the unemployment office and if you tell them you are receiving money from social security, they will put your file on hold and go through adjudication, which can take up to 6 weeks. They do not have the capabilities of checking to see if you are on social security, so the best policy is to not say anything... =)
