Ovulation is the point in the mid cycle where the egg is released. This usually happens on or about day 14 of the cycle and continues for the next 5-6 days or until fertilization takes place. If there are sperm in the uterus at this time or a few days before it is highly likely that pregnancy can happen. If you don't know when your day 14 is in your cycle there is an easy way to track it. Get a pocket calendar and on day 1 of your cycle make a mark on the date and do that everyday after until the next cycle. Keep doing this each month and a pattern will develop. You will also be able to keep track of your cycle and know when you are fertile.
Ovulation is merely the point at which the ovary releases an egg. A woman is fertile roughly 24 hours after her egg is released. However sperm can survive in cervical fluid for up to 5 days before ovulation, meaning a woman can be potentially fertile for as long as 6 days.
It does not take long for your temperature to rise after ovulation. It can rise slightly the day of ovulation but will also continue to rise over the next few days. In order to confirm ovulation took place you will need a rise in temperature over three days.
