Here is a link that shows how to replace the intake manifold gasket. Bolt locations and torque settings. Hope this helps.
2000 3.8 Lower intake manifold (manifold to cylinder head) 1st step is 44 inch pounds, 2nd step is 89 inch pounds. This must be done in sequence.
I have a 2000 Malibu, I can help you out if you can give me some more info...where on the intake manifold are you referring to?
Assuming this is a 4.3L engine, the upper intake manifold gasket would be between the upper intake manifold and the lower intake manifold.
on top of the motor
Inlet or Exhaust?
the intake manifold is located on top of the engine, the piece that look like the tubbing is intertwining.
It is really easy. open the hood and from behind the air intake manifold losen two bolts and it will come right off. the bolts are either a 14 mm or a 17 mm.
Unbolts the (2) 12mm bolts from the back of the Intake Manifold (next to the TB), take off and replace it with new gasket.
Replace idle air control valve. 2 10mm bolts and about 15 min. $100.00 at mazda.
My 2002 Galant has not had spark plugs replaced for over 100k due to where they are. Three are underneath the intake manifold. Yes...intake has to be removed. Not difficult now that I know. Lots of bolts and hoses need to be removed to lift the manifold.
The only fix for a bad intake gasket is to remove the intake manifold and replace the gasket.
