Documenting them all would be a feat, as they range from relics of French colonial rule and Japanese occupation, to the weapons supplied by the United States and Soviet Union and China. This list - which is likely incomplete - includes some of what was used:

Pistols:

  • Colt M1911 and M1911A1 (United States of America)
  • Browning P35 Hi Power (Belgium, Australia)
  • Tokarev TT (Soviet Union, China)

Shotguns:

  • Winchester Model 12 (United States of America)
  • Winchester Model 1200 (United States of America)
  • Remington 870 (United States of America)
  • Ithaca Model 37 (United States of America)

Submachineguns:

  • MAT-49 (France)
  • Carl Gustav M/45 (Sweden)
  • Smith & Wesson M76 (United States of America - this was an unlicenced copy of the Carl Gustav M/45)
  • Thompson M1 and M1A1 (United States of America)
  • M3 'Grease Gun' (United States of America)
  • PPD-40 (Soviet Union)
  • PPsH-41 (Soviet Union, China)
  • K50M (North Vietnam - this was a simplified copy of the PPsH-41)

Bolt action rifles:

  • Arisaka Type 38 (Japan)
  • Arisaka Type 99 (Japan)
  • MAS MLE 36 (France)
  • Lebel M1886 (France)
  • Mosin-Nagant (Soviet Union, China, possibly others)
  • Springfield M1903 (United States of America)
  • Remington 700 (United States of America)
  • M40 (United States of America)
  • Winchester Model 70 (United States of America)
  • L42 (United Kingdom, Australia, possibly others)

Assault rifles, light rifles, carbines, battle rifles:

  • M16 and variants (United States of America)
  • AK-47 (Soviet Union, China, possibly others)
  • SKS (Soviet Union, China, North Vietnam, East Germany)
  • FN-FAL and variants (Belgium, Australia - SLR variant with Commonwealth pattern magazine)
  • M14 (United States of America)
  • M1 Garand (United States of America)
  • MAS-49 (France)
  • Tokarev SVT-1938 and SVT-1940 (Soviet Union)
  • M1, M2, and M3 carbine (United States of America)

Machine guns:

  • RPD (Soviet Union, China)
  • Vz. 26 (Czechoslovakia)
  • Chauchat (France, and yes, there were reports of them turning up)
  • RPK-47 (Soviet Union)
  • FM 24/29 (France)
  • AA-52 (France)
  • Stoner 63 (United States of America)
  • M1918 Browning Automatic Rifle (United States of America)
  • Browning M1919 and variants (United States of America)
  • M60 (United States of America)
  • PK (Soviet Union)
  • RP-46 (Soviet Union, China)
  • DP and DPM (Soviet Union
  • Browning M2 HBAR (United States of America)
  • DShK (Soviet Union, China)

And I can guarantee there are several others not on this list. But this should give you an idea of what was used, and where they came from.

What was the lagacy of the Vietnam war?

Because of the Vietnam war, irregardless of technology, for America, guns will always be installed on its jet fighter aircraft. Explanation: Prior to the Viet War the US and other highly advanced nations were installing & experimenting with missiles. All types of missiles; air to air, air to ground, ground to air, water (sea/ocean) to air, ground to ground, sea to sea, etc. Consequently, many new jets (the F4 Phantom II being one of them) were designed and/or built without guns on them (primarily 20mm cannons)...just those new missiles (Sidewinders &, Sparrows, as two examples). Then the war hit home with air battles occurring in the skies over North Vietnam...and US losses were very heavy...the North Viet Air Force MiGs were using guns! So...guns were reinstalled on US jets...and so far...are here to stay.
