The confedarate national flag went through several phases. First was the "Stars and Bars." it was a red flage with a white stripe through the middle running horizontaly, and in the upper left corner, 11 stars on a blue field. That looked to much like the American flag, so they changed it to a white flag with a Confedarate Battle flag in the upper left corner. That looked to much like a surrender flag, so the final version was the sane, but with a vertical red sripe on the right side.

The battle flag is a red square with a white "X" going from cornre to corner from both directions. Insode that was a smaller blue "X" containing 13 stars. One in the middle, and three on each leg ogf the "X."

The Naval Jack was the same as the battle flag, but it was rectangular, like a normal flag.

So the confederacy had 5 oficial flags overall.

What did the rebel flag stand for?

The flag referred to as the "Rebel Flag" in the United States is typically the rectangular Confederate flag known officially as the Confederate Navy Jack. The square flags with the same red background and diagonal blue cross with 13 white stars are the Cavalry and Artillery flags of the Confederacy (the Confederate States of America). These flags were NOT official flags of the Confederate States of America but rather battle-related flags. There is a common misconception that these battle flags are called the "stars and bars" because they actually have stars and bars. But the actual "stars and bars" flag is the first of three National Flag of the Confederacy... doesn't look a thing like the battle flags.

What shade of blue was or is used in the confederacy flag?

There were three (3) official flags of the Confederate States of America (CSA). The CSA Congressional Flag Acts do not specify what the exact colors were to be. There merely stated the colors of white, red, and blue. Likewise the various battle flags and navy jack did not appear to have any color specifications either. Many of the official flags were made by the Richmond Clothing Depot, the Staunton Clothing Depot, and the Charleston Clothing Depot.

Why do some states still have the confederate flag?

Some states have incorporated the Confederate Battle Flag into their state flags as a mark of their heritage. At this point I think the secret reason they still have it is because they find it so much fun to watch people get their panties in a twist about it.
