Probably a little higher than the national average. These days, gay men who try to defy stereotypes are drawn to masculine careers. So are any gay men who feel insecure in their masculinity.

While probably not a credible theory, some of the critics contend that deep-seated insecurity is a cause of gayness, so if that has any validity, then that could explain some of the gay men in macho positions.

It is difficult to impossible to say since the enacting of Bill Clinton's Don't ask, don't tell policy. Although there was a fairly recent annoymus survey and study on this particular question. Assuming the statistic hold up, a little over half the military is gay or lesbian.
