2.6 US quarts if I remember correctly.

It is a really weird number--2.64 quarts. The REAL answer is 2500 milliliters. If you go over that, the VW engine's very high startup oil pressure will pop the main seal right out of the block, and then you are in for a whole day's work putting a new one in. My recommendation is to put two and a half quarts of oil in the thing and call it good; it'll read slightly below full on the stick and that's okay.
Look in your owners manual. It should be listed under capacities. On a 2000 1.8 turbo it is approximately 4.5 qts.
5 qts. with a new oil filter.
6 qts of oil for a 4.7 liter and 5 qts of oil for a 5.9 liter
5 qts. of motor oil
4 qts of motor oil then check and add only if needed.
under 2 qts of 10w40 oil
4.5 qts (5 qts when filter is changed)
5 qts with filter.
Start with 4.5 qts of oil, but it can take up to 5 qts.
4 Cylinder = 4.4 Qts. V6 = 4.5 Qts.
4.5
It takes 6 qts of oil
