Geo Storm was manufactured from 1990-1993. Two engines were available the 1600cc SOHC and the 1600cc DOHC while it is possible to switch between one style engine for the other it is rather involved. Other sources for these engines are the Isuzu Stylus for the SOHC or the DOHC or the Isuzu Impulse XS for the DOHC. The Isuzu Impulse RS was a DOHC Turbo which requires considerable modification to install.
Here's where the crankshaft postion sensor (CKP) is located in each of the engines available for the 1995 Taurus: 3.0L regular engine: Hall Effect switch inside distributor. 3.0L DOHC SHO engine: on the front of the cylinder block just above the crankshaft. 3.0L FF engine: at 10 o'clock position of crankshaft pulley. 3.2L DOHC SHO engine: same as 3.0L SHO engine. 3.8L engine: Hall Effect switch inside distributor.
with a basic gear puller. a three teeth is usely used but, I use a two tooth one and works fine, pull it like pulling a pulley behind the teeth, and do it gentle or you will break the teeth.
ON the SOHC models the Crankshaft position sensor is located on the front of the oil pan, The DOHC is located behind the engine, the transmission and the flywheel must be removed to the sensor on the DOHC models
sensor is found on front of engine block above the harmonic balance wheel
There are a few companies that claim to have a procedure to turn a crank while it's still in the engine. In general, they don't work.
dohc is better
A Chevrolet 502 if you want to do all the work that would take. Realistically, a 1.8L DOHC 16V out of the Geo Storm GSI is about the most you're gonna fit in there.
Yes any Storm motor will fit in any storm, however you will also need the wiring harness from the new engine if it is not the IDENTICAL motor. You will also then need the ECM. Storm Motors Include 1.6 SOHC 12v (90-93 Base Model) 1.6 DOHC 16v (90-91 GSi) 1.8 DOHC 16v (92-93 GSi) Sources... www.isuzone.org www.stormowners.com
The 2.4 litre DOHC engine is NOT an interference engine.
2.2 = 2200cc volume of the cylinder or displacement of the piston 16 valves= 4 valves pe cylinder and there are 4 cylinders DOHC is Dual Over Head Cam VTT is a type of engine In a VTT engine the movement of cam is controlled by hydraulic pressure, in an ordinary engine cam is moved by the crankshaft.
On my car (1999 Escort zx2 2.0 l DOHC) it is located on the exhaust side of the engine, looking at the engine from the front to the car towards the rear, it will be on the lower right hand side of the engine, I had to drop the catalytic converter to get to it, you will feel wires and a connector on the lower right, this is your crankshaft position sensor, it (the alignment pin) is located about 1.5" to the left of (looking front to back) the crankshaft position sensor.
