OMG please detox ur son this is insane and whoever prescribed ALL that medication for a 9 year old should have their license revoked. You know your son the best do research on your own. Children at 9 years old cannot tell you how they feel exactly so do not overmedicate and make things worse. I have been there and had those drugs shoved down 0y throught with 2 documented suicide attempts on Strattera bc was overmedicated....only to find out after years of ME telling psych. it was something else and finally at 23 I was diagnosed with bipolar and the psych said that all those years of the wrong medications worsened my symptoms......please do your research and get ALOT of other opinions..its ur child's life and sedating them doesnt make it better. There are many resources out there that can help without the medication. It just takes time. This adhd medications and diagnosis's are used so much bc ppl don't want to take the time it takes tp figure out what is going on. Do not 3et the doctors decide. You Take charge in your child's mental health, don't leave them up to the "system" you know your child best. And ask alot of questions.....always.
A child who is on lithium needs to be monitored carefully before starting Strattera. This drug can trigger depression and my not be appropriate for someone who is taking a medication such as lithium.
tweeking out?
Strattera is non addictive so there would be no withdrawal symptoms. I want to answer this question with a question. Why would you want to withdraw this medication for two days?
my child is on 54mg of concerta XL and ao it dose not effect him in any diffent way.
Phone an ambulance.
If Strattera works for your child, it may improve attentiveness and decrease hyperactivity/impulsivity Strattera can improve ADHD symptoms in children in the classroom setting as reported by teachers in a clinical study
Strattera is specifically for ADD. I wouldn't take the Welbutrin for the ADD. Right church, wrong pew.
It is NOT safe to give ANY person a medication that is NOT prescribed for that person. It is also unwise and neglectful to give a minor child any medication, especially a narcotic (!), without a doctor's order. It is unlawful to give any person of any age narcotics prescribed for you, and you can be arrested for doing it.
If you have the capsule form you can cut it in half and take that, slowly come off of it because coming off of it all at once can cause health effects/withdrawals.I have not come off of Strattera and have no intention to, as it is working wonderfully for me, but I would like to say that since Strattera is not a stimulant, the side effects of stopping the medication should be minimal and there should be no withdrawal, as Strattera is not addictive.I have read reports of people stopping Strattera suddenly due to being unable to get the drug due to insurance or money, or to give themselves a creativity boost, or they simply didn't want to take a medication anymore and having no problems coming off of it.As for cutting the capsule in half, please don't do that. From the packaging:Avoid touching a broken STRATTERA capsule. Wash hands and surfaces that touched an open STRATTERA capsule. If any of the powder gets in you or your child's eyes, rinse them with water right away and call your doctor.
I would not recommend this combination, since it does have an increased risk of hypertensive effects. However, it is possible that a low dosage of each would be prescribed to treat different symptoms (social phobia / ADHD). I have never seen this combination prescribed before though.
Answer: If your child has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder they shouldn't take Strattera; ultimately this is your decision to make with your child's doctor. But keep in mind there is a Black Box Warning about Strattera: It states that you shouldn't take it if you have bipolar disorder or have symptoms such as psychosis or mania. It also says that you should stop taking Straterra if you notice your child has sudden changes in behavior such as irratibility and suicidal thoughts. Because of the way they(the FDA) put it in this warning I wouldn't say that taking both of those is completely harmless. hope this helps*****
