The alternator went out on my Celica as well, i was silly enough to leave the parking lights on all night, as i was driving at dusk and didnt see the need to have the headlights popped up. Basically there are 3 bolts that need to be taken off. There's one that holds the alternator in place, one that keeps it flush against the engine, and one on the bracket. (This is if i remember correctly) I recommend you disconnect the battery for this, as any mistake could cause disaster. Once the battery is disconnected, you unplug the alternator. Easy done. First bolt I recommend you take off is the bracket. That is only there to keep it steady. I would then take off the bolt that holds it tight against the engine. (At this point it may be best to have a mate there helping you) You need to make sure the alternator doesnt move when its still connected to the engine, because chances are, the bolt will bend under the weight of the alternator. Taking this final bolt off is simple enough, then its just a case of wiggling the alternator off the brace, and its yours. Goodluck.
loosen tensioner bolt for alternator, remove belt, unplug all electrical connections.. remove bolt in rear of alternator should be able to pull it out after that, instalation is the reverse this is assumeing you have a 5sfe engine
First you will need to loosen the tension on the belt in order to remove the belt. After that, you will need to remove the bolt holding on the alternator. Installation is the reverse. Dont forget to tension the belt
Change the alt.
Trash the car and get yourself a jeep :)
The thermostat is behind the alternator. Follow the bottom hose from the raiditor to the engine. In order to replace the thermostat alternator needs to be removed.
disconnect the battery source first, disconnect the wiring on the alternator, then loosen the bolts on the mounts to loosen the belt. then loosen and remove the bolts. remove the alternator, and replace with new one.
make sure engine is cool!!!!!! top bolt will cross thread!!!!! unbolt the bolt on the top of the alternator. push the alternator towards the back of the car to take the tension off the belt. unbolt the bolt underneath the alternator. remove alternator. reverse instructions for reassembly.
