on the starter/solenoid,there is a heavy cable coming from battery.also there is a smaller wire. using a screw driver, u need to make a contact between these two wires. generally the smaller wire is a push on connection and will need to be slid back a little to enable contactof bare metal on the conector.remember to push wire back when started. if little wire has a nut securing it just make contact between that and the heavy terminal.also MAKE SURE VEHICLE IS IN PARK,OR NEUTRAL AND PARK BRAKE APPLIED.ignition switch must be turned on to start. There usually is a lot of sparks and you don't want to leave the connection too long, maybe a couple seconds, or else you will never be able to have the screwdriver back (It will weld it there)
your ignition switch or the starter solenoid is bad try jumping the solenoid instead of the starter, if this does not work, then change solenoid
# Disconnect negative battery cable # Raise and support the truck # Remove the protective cover from the starter motor solenoid terminals # Disconnect the wiring from the terminals on the starter motor solenoid # Remove the starter mounting bolts and detach the starter from the engine
clicking sound but engine wont turn over. jump across terminals on starter if engine turns over solenoid is bad.
Starter solenoid? Jump the trigger wire (small) and the cable that runs to the starter
You can turn the key to the "run" position, and jump across the solenoid with a screwdriver or something metal. If the starter turns, you have a bad solenoid.
Jump the starter solenoid Take jumper wire from Battery + to trigger wire to starter (mounted on top of starter)
jump out the solenoid or relay. This will close the circuit for the high current.
The battery is dead, the connection is bad, the terminals are corroded, the starter is bad, the solenoid is bad.
The starter relay or solenoid is probably the problem.
If the battery tests good and battery cables are clean and tight at both ends and you are jumping the starter solenoid correctly with no results, you probably have a bad starter/solenoid.
If the starter is bad no. Check battery, starter and solenoid to be sure which is bad.
If you have a new starter with solenoid,do you still wire it to the firewall solenoid switch?Because wire is smoking on the switch and battery terminals. No rotation, just clicking.
