With utmost care :)
Remove the rear light cell to expose the sending unit. All will be clear then.....AP
You need to find out first if your Sharan has dual units or single, if it has a rear unit then it will be under the interior trim by n/s/r wheel arch. Under the bonnet there is a sticker under the giving quantity of refrigerant required.
Remove rear light unit cover in trunk. Turn bulb holder fastener 90 degrees counter clockwise and remove. Replace faulty bulb.
4 Screws, remove tailight unit, twist & replce infected bulb ......
The light bulb unit is found underneath the carpet behind each tail light area. Remove the plastic screws holding the trunk carpet to the interior sides behind the rear lights, follow the wiring to the center of the tail light, this is the light bulb unit-unscrew and remove.
if the high mounted brake light is in rear window. open trunk and access the light from below rear window shelf. if the light is in the spoiler, remove the screws holding it in. disconnect elec, connector from inside of trunk lid. the assembly has no replaceable bulbs, and has to be replaced as a unit..
u have to take off the complete light unit ,remove the two retaining bolts ,this then gives u access to the bulb holders.
I have an estate, so the procedure might be slightly different on a hatchback, but not by much. The rear light cluster is attached via a screw behind the facia panel at the back. You will need to remove the plastic panel in the boot behind the light cluster and unscrew the unit before you can remove it to change the bulb.
If it's like mine remove the black panel in the corner of the boot. Disconnect the wires. there should be two bolts that will unscrew by hand. the light unit should come off with ease. to get access lift up the clips on the back of the light unit and you will get access to change the bulbs. hope this helps
If it's the latest model (MkVI or MkVII, 2002 on) there are two screws at the side of the unit, visible when the tailgate is opened, and there is also a plastic wing nut behind each rear light unit, accessible via a cut-out in the boot carpet behind the light unit. This plastic nut is attached to a bolt in the light housing, so without undoing it the rear light cluster cannot be removed, although there is no mention of it in some versions of the owners manual.
Under the drivers seat.
First remove the plastic cover of the rear door. You need a screw driver to pull the cover clips out of it's hole. You can see the back side of the plate light unit through an open path just beside the rear wiper motor. Push the clip gently and take out the whole unit and change the bulb.
