It is possible, but it is a long and potentially expensive process. If a farmer has irrigation water available in large quantities, the best way is to flood or furrow irrigate the field with no crops for a number of years. The length of time will vary depending on the degree of salt in the soil. Then try planting some alkali-tolerant crops such as alfalfa. Some soils are so salt-laden they are not recoverable. The addition of well-composted manure can sometimes help.
