When rebuilding an engine, you MUST replace all bearings and re-grind all rods. if you just try to polish out the scratches, it can allow the crankshaft to travel, causing minor vibrations at least, if not a valve strike, which is devastating for an engine.

What does a knocking sound in the engine means?

Typically.... Connecting rod bearing / crank bearing. But it could also be piston slap, or flywheel.

What are connecting rods?

connecting rod is provided between crank and the piston, which converts the reciprocating motion of the piston into rotary motion of the crank.

What is involved in fixing a spun rod bearing?

The easiest repair is to replace the engine. Otherwise the crank shaft will need replaced/remachined and the connecting rod will need replaced. Basically a complete overhaul.

What is a crank bearing?

It's a bearing that the crankshaft of an internal combustion engine rotates on.

How do you remove babbitt from crankshaft?

I assume you mean the bearing lining from a stuck or spun bearing. You can have the crank turned at a machine shop, or you can use strips of emery cloth and polish it off. Use strips 12 to 18 inches long and as wide as the journal. Rotate the crank as far as you can to one side, the 8 or 9 o'clock position, put a strip of emery cloth over the journal and holding each end in a hand, polish the crank. Do this for a while and then rotate it to the 3-4 o'clock position and do the same. This should let you get to the entire journal.

What would cause knocking in your inline 6 engine for your 1989 jeep wrangler?

You need to see if it is up high, which is probably lifter noise, or down low which is a crank or connecting rod bearing. Identify it soon, if it is the bearing waiting will only cause more expensive damage.

Connecting rods connect the piston to what?

The connecting rod has a "wrist pin" which goes through the side of the piston and through the connecting rod. It is one of the most critical fit parts of an engine. The connecting rod or con rod connects the piston to the crank or crankshaft!!!

Marine engineering crank shaft deflection of an new engine?

Crankshaft used to transforms the linear motion of the pistons into a rotational motion that is transmitted to the load.Piston connected with crankshaft by connecting rod. Each units of the crankshaft supported by crank bearing(usually journal bearing) In multi-cylinder engine every units piston connected with crankshaft create rotational motion according to firing order.Crank shaft alignment is necessary for smooth engine operation.
