Unless you see some sort of set screw or locking ring, it screws off.
Actually on a Ford you must pull them off. they have a press fit. The shaft is splined and the knob is pressed onto the shaft.
the shifter is all in one. you have to replace the whole shifter. the nob is attached
twist the bottom piece of the gear nob
Once you remove the dust cover attached to your shifter, you'll see your shaft going into a gear box. There will be a pin to remove and this will allow you to pull the shifter right out. good luck
Hi I have just finished installing a B&M short shifter in my 02 sunfire gt and I had to cut it off (its made out of a very dense foam)To get the nob off, to remove the cup bushing retainer.
i have a 95 with that problem. when my mechanic told me the cost to fix it i decided to live with it. it sticks and wont shift into gear when the car is cold or hasn't run for awhile. the nob on the top of the shifter comes off. i use it to wack the part that wont move down and replace the nob. it works. i showed my mechanic he got a laugh out of it.
If you have amanual transmission You have to push down on the plastic ring above the shifter boot. after you push down the ring, Now you can unscrew the shifter knob. IF you have a automatic transmission you have to remove the screw on the side of the shifter knob. (Be careful the button on the shifter knob is spring loaded)
Maybe brake shift cable from brake to gear shifter?
shifter rod gear linkage
if it is a consel shift, just under the shifter nob.
your shifter linkage is probably broken.
grasp the shifter, remove from gear (or place in park)... problem solved
Just put the gear shifter into od and go.Just put the gear shifter into od and go.
