You're going to have to crawl down under the engine for this one. First, remove the ground cable from the battery. Second, after making an accurate diagram of the wiring postions on the starter, go ahead and take the wire off. Third, remove the starter. Now it's time to either rebuild the starter you have or replace with a new one. Once you've done that, re-bolt the starter into place. Fourth, replace the wiring on the new starter EXACTLY as your diagram tells you to (just it way it was on the old one). Fifth, reconnect the ground cable and fire that baby up!!!

On a 1991 Lincoln Continental : I'm not a mechanic / technician but I have never heard of aluminum heads for the 3.8 litre Ford V6 engine So , I would assume they are cast iron
